Nova Scotian Woman Wins $31 Million Lotto Max Jackpot Thanks to Birthday Gift from Grandson

Marie McCarthy, a resident of New Waterford in Cape Breton, has won the biggest lottery prize in the Maritimes and Nova Scotia's history, a $31-million Lotto Max jackpot.

McCarthy received three lottery tickets as a birthday gift from her grandson Jeff on January 31, and one of them turned out to be the jackpot winner.

Atlantic Lottery stated that McCarthy plans to use her winnings to support her immediate family and pay off mortgages for her nieces and nephews.

She expressed her disbelief and stated that she never thought about a bucket list before because she never thought she'd have the money to do anything on it.
