A fortunate resident from Stanford scoops a big jackpot recently

A Sanford man on Monday won $100,000 from a scratch-off ticket. According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, Charlie Lewis bought a $20 Instant Millions scratch off ticket from the Fastee Mart on Lee Avenue in Sanford and won $100,000.

Lewis arrived at lottery headquarters on Monday and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,506.

The North Carolina Education Lottery said Instant Millions, which debuted in May, has four $2 million grand prizes and eight $100,000 prizes.

As of Monday, one person has won the $2 million prize, and two people, including Lewis, have won the $100,000 prize.

The winner has only 180 days from the day of the lottery draw to claim the winning prize money, lottery officials said.
