A scratch off lottery player from Rowan County scoops a big jackpot recently

James Sassman of Kannapolis took a chance on a $50 scratch-off and won a $100,000 prize.

Sassman bought his lucky $10 Million Spectacular ticket from the Walmart on South Arlington Street in Salisbury.

He arrived at lottery headquarters on April 4 to claim his prize and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,514.

The $10 Million Spectacular game debuted in December with five top prizes of $10 million, 20 prizes of $1 million and 20 prizes of $100,000.

Four $10 million prizes, 15 $1 million prizes and 15 $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

The winner is planning to pay all his due bills and buy a brand new car after claiming the winning prize money, lottery officials said.

They also announced that the winner has to reach the nearest lottery headquarters for further documentation formalities and for claiming the winning prize money.
