A lucky mega millions lottery player from Vinton wins $3 million

The Virginia Lottery reports a Mega Millions ticket bought in Vinton has won $3 million.

The winning ticket from Vinton matched the first five numbers in Friday’s drawing, with the only number it didn’t match being the Mega Ball number.

The winnings for matching five numbers is normally $1 million, however, Virginia Lottery says the winning player spent an extra for the Megaplier when buying the ticket.

This tripled the the prize. After last night’s drawing, three other winners took home $10,000 each.

Since no ticket in Virginia has yet to match all six winning numbers, the jackpot for the next drawing on Tuesday, March 26 is expected to grow to an estimated $1.1 billion. Tuesday’s drawing will take place at 11 p.m.
