Algona Woman Wins $10,000 Lottery Prize

Algona - An Algona woman scratched off a $10,000 lottery prize while out for dinner with friends.

44-year-old Sara Abbas won the big prize in the Iowa Lottery's "Super 20s" scratch game. She bought her winning ticket at Billie Jo's Bar & Grill. in Algona. She redeemed a $20 prize on a different ticket and decided to use her winnings to buy an additional ticket in the $20 scratch game.

When she uncovered the prize amount on her ticket, she asked her friends to check it. She scanned the ticket with the Iowa Lottery mobile app to confirm her win, then asked an employee to check it on the restaurant's lottery terminal, just to be sure.

Abbas claimed her prize on Monday at the lottery's Mason City regional office. She said she plans to put her winnings toward purchases for her new home.
