Virginia Lottery Offers $10,000 Teachers’ Lounge Makeover to Two Schools

Virginia teachers and school staff could soon have a much-needed place to relax, recharge and reset.

The Virginia Lottery is accepting entries for its second annual Teachers’ Lounge Makeover contest, with two K-12 public schools set to win lounge upgrades valued at $10,000 each.

How to Enter

  • Entries are open through October 6, 2026.
  • Anyone 18 or older can nominate a Virginia K-12 public school, including teachers, staff, parents and community members.
  • Winners will be selected in a drawing on October 7.

Each winning lounge will receive new furniture and supplies designed to create a more comfortable and welcoming space for educators.

Last year, Suburban Park Elementary in Norfolk received a major lounge makeover, including a new couch, refrigerator, tables, chairs, greenery and cabinetry. The space also featured artwork created by students.

Virginia Lottery Executive Director Kevin Hall said the contest is a personal way to recognize educators for the work they do every day. He also highlighted the Lottery’s broader support for K-12 education, which has totaled more than $15 billion since 1999.

The Lottery says it generated more than $914 million for Virginia’s K-12 public schools in Fiscal Year 2026, representing about 10% of the state’s total K-12 education budget.
