UK's Luckiest Lottery Postcodes: Where the Most Millionaires Live
UK Lottery Millionaires: Where Are the Luckiest Postcodes?
More than 100 National Lottery millionaires have emerged from Coventry and Warwickshire, according to historical lottery data. The CV postcode area has recorded 110 millionaires, equal to around 1.48 winners for every 10,000 people. This puts the area at No. 61 among 122 UK postcode districts in the overall luck rankings.
Across the United Kingdom, 140 lottery players became millionaires during the year covered by the report, averaging roughly one new millionaire every 48 hours.
The number of big winners could rise even further following the launch of a redesigned Lotto game in June. The updated format gives players two chances to win with the same ticket, and organizers expect the change to potentially double the number of new Lotto millionaires each year.
Which UK Areas Have the Most Lottery Millionaires?
Historical figures dating back to the National Lottery's launch in 1994 show that Birmingham has produced more millionaires than any other UK postcode area, with 234 recorded winners. Belfast ranks second with 202, while Glasgow takes third place with 178.

These figures include winners who publicly shared their stories and those who chose to remain anonymous. The rankings are based on postcode areas, not individual postcodes or local council boundaries.
However, larger cities naturally have more lottery winners because they have bigger populations. Looking at the number of millionaires relative to the adult population provides a more meaningful comparison of how frequently different areas produce big winners.
Motherwell Leads the Per-Person Rankings
When population size is taken into account, Motherwell comes out on top. Its historical figures work out to approximately one lottery millionaire for every 4,156 adults, or around 2.41 millionaires per 10,000 adults.
Watford ranks second, followed by Liverpool. Smaller areas, including Dumfries and Llandrindod Wells, also make the top 10.

Kathy Garrett, Winners Experience Lead at Allwyn, the operator of The National Lottery, said the figures demonstrate that major wins have happened throughout the UK, from large cities to smaller communities.
Her message was simple: there is no single postcode where luck happens.
Manchester Leads Recent Millionaire Wins
Looking at the three years covered by the report, Manchester recorded the highest number of new lottery millionaires, with 30 winners since 2023.
Liverpool followed closely with 29, while Birmingham recorded 27.
Other areas appearing among the leading locations for recent millionaire wins include:
- Belfast
- Portsmouth
- Leicester
- Glasgow
- Nottingham
- Peterborough
- Swansea
These figures highlight how lottery success continues to reach communities across the country rather than being concentrated in just a few major cities.
Where Are Players Winning Prizes Worth Up to £1 Million?
Becoming a millionaire isn't the only way a lottery prize can change someone's life. The data also tracks so-called "Higher Tier" winners who received prizes of more than £50,000 but less than £1 million.
When these wins are compared with population figures, Galashiels ranks first, with approximately one winner for every 792 people. Romford comes a close second, followed by Sunderland.
Liverpool and Romford are the only areas featured on both the millionaire and Higher Tier winner rankings, showing that both have recorded strong results across these prize categories.
Several Scottish locations also appear on the Higher Tier list, highlighting areas where players have secured substantial prizes without necessarily reaching millionaire status.

Does Your Postcode Make You Luckier?
The figures reveal some interesting differences between the areas producing the most lottery millionaires overall and those with the highest numbers of winners relative to their populations.
Birmingham leads in total millionaire numbers, while Motherwell tops the population-adjusted rankings. Manchester has recorded the most recent millionaire wins in the period examined, and Galashiels leads the Higher Tier prize rankings.
The biggest takeaway: Lottery winners have come from communities across the UK, and no particular postcode guarantees a win. These rankings reflect historical results, while every lottery draw remains a game of chance.
