Seminole County man wins Florida Lottery scratch-off game worth $1M

A lucky man from Seminole County named Dezerick Kirkland won a whopping sum of $1 million playing Florida Lottery's $1,000,000 A Year For Life Spectacular scratch-off game.

The winning ticket was purchased from the Publix, located at 482 East Altamonte Drive in Altamonte Springs. The store will receive a bonus of $10,000 for selling the winning ticket.

Kirkland recently claimed his winning amount from the lottery headquarters and took home $640,000 as a one-time lump sum after state taxes.

The Florida Lottery is the government-operated lottery of the U.S. state of Florida. A player must be 18 or older to play.

Though the Florida Lottery's expenses and payouts vary from year to year, approximately 50 percent of its net revenue makes up the games' prize pools, 40 percent is transferred to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund, 6 percent is paid to retailers in the form of commissions, 2 percent is paid to the Lottery's on-line and Scratch-Off ticket vendors, and the remaining 2 percent covers operational costs, including advertising.
