Rotorua Couple's Last-Minute Lotto Purchase Wins Them Life-Changing $500,000

A Rotorua couple's seemingly insignificant last-minute decision to buy a Lotto ticket turned into a life-changing moment when they won an astounding $500,000. The First Division winners, choosing to remain anonymous, revealed they were occasional players who decided to try their luck with a Triple Dip - a decision they almost didn't make.

"I wasn't going to buy a ticket, but my partner reminded me to get one that day," said the woman. "So, I ended up getting one a couple of hours before the draw."

After purchasing the ticket, the couple forgot about it and only checked their numbers later that night when their children were already in bed. What they saw on the screen left them in complete disbelief.

"We were lying in bed about to go to sleep when my partner checked the ticket online around 11," the woman recalled. "He got up suddenly, and I thought something was wrong because he was bent over. I asked him if everything was okay, and he replied, 'We just won.' I didn't believe him. I said, 'Whatever!' but then he showed me his screen, and there it was – 'Major Prize Winner.' I was shocked. There were so many emotions going through my head."

Struggling to sleep that night, the couple celebrated quietly with their kids the next day. They plan to take their time considering their options but express their ultimate goal of setting up their children for the future.

The winning Lotto First Division ticket, sold on MyLotto for the draw on July 19, was not immediately claimed. Interestingly, this is the second time in less than four months that a Rotorua Lotto player has won a significant $500,000 prize, reflecting the remarkable luck that has graced this region.
