North Carolina Man Wins $1 Million Lottery Prize, Plans Disney World Trip With Four Daughters

A North Carolina father is celebrating a $1 million lottery win with plans to give his four daughters a vacation they'll never forget — a trip to Disney World!

Willie Dennis of Goldsboro hit the jackpot after purchasing a Moneybag Cashword scratch-off ticket at Adams Convenient Mart in Goldsboro. He told the North Carolina Education Lottery that the game had caught his attention several times whenever he visited the store.

"I’m going to take them to Disney World," Dennis said. "They've never been before."

Dennis bought the winning ticket on Saturday and brought it to lottery headquarters on Monday to claim his prize. He had two payment options:

  • $50,000 annually for 20 years, totaling $1 million.

  • $600,000 as a one-time lump sum.

He chose the lump-sum payment and received $432,063 after required state and federal tax withholdings.

The Moneybag Cashword game launched in October with four $1 million top prizes. According to lottery officials, three of those top prizes are still available.

Dennis's win also brings attention to the lottery's contributions to his home county. Wayne County has received more than $28 million in state grants funded by lottery proceeds, including money used to help build a new elementary school.

He's not the only North Carolina lottery winner planning a Disney vacation. Earlier this year, Charlotte resident Jennifer Orbock won $707,600 after playing the Magic Winnings Vegas digital game with just $1.

After choosing the lump-sum option, Orbock took home $509,543 after taxes.

Her plans were similar to Dennis's. "We are taking the kids to Disney World," she told lottery officials.
