Michigan Woman Wins $25,000 a Year for Life After Buying Lottery Ticket During Sister Visit

A simple visit to see her sister turned into a life-changing moment for a Michigan woman. ?

Kathy Forquer, 67, of Lansing, struck it big playing the Lucky for Life lottery after matching all five white balls — 13, 18, 25, 27, and 30 — in the February 10 drawing.

Here’s the exciting part

  • ? Prize: $25,000 a year for life (or at least 20 years)

  • ? Ticket purchased: Borders Corner Store on East Pickard Road in Mount Pleasant

  • ? Final choice: Took a lump-sum payment of $390,000

Forquer said she bought the ticket while visiting her sister in Mount Pleasant — something she’d done many times before as a regular Lucky for Life player.

The morning after the drawing, she checked the ticket around 6 a.m. — and the moment nearly stopped her in her tracks.

She joked that when she realized she’d won, it felt like she was having a heart attack because her heart was beating so fast.

Still in disbelief while claiming the prize, Forquer said the whole experience felt “surreal.”

What she plans to do with the money

Forquer isn’t going overboard with her winnings. Her plans are simple:

  • ? Buy a new car

  • ? Save the rest for the future

A quick reminder for lottery players

Big wins don’t always get claimed. In 2024, a $250,000 Powerball ticket sold in Bloomfield Hills went unclaimed, and the money eventually went to Michigan’s School Aid Fund.

Michigan has also seen some massive wins recently. One of the biggest was in June 2024, when the Breakfast Club lottery group landed an incredible $842 million jackpot, with plans to buy a home in Florida and travel.
