Michigan Man Discovers $1 Million King Cashword Win

A 75-year-old Montcalm County man is still in shock after discovering he won a $1 million Michigan Lottery prize on his favorite instant game, King Cashword.

The anonymous winner bought his $20 ticket at Maple Valley Market in Trufant. At first, he thought he had won just $5,000—and he was already thrilled with that amount.

But after checking the ticket again, he spotted a missed “L” in the call letter box and realized his prize was actually $1 million.

“I was in disbelief,” he said, explaining that he drove more than an hour to the Lottery office in Grand Rapids to have the ticket verified.

The winner recently claimed his prize as a one-time lump-sum payment of about $693,000.

His plans for the money

Rather than keeping it all for himself, the Michigan man plans to:

• Donate to help others
• Support his children
• Set up a trust fund

King Cashword launched in June 2025. Tickets cost $20, with prizes ranging from $20 all the way up to $1 million.
