Miami Man Strikes Gold with $1 Million Win from $20 Scratch-off

A man from Miami was able to turn $20 into $1 million from playing a scratch-off game.

The Florida Lottery announced on Monday, that 59-year-old Jose Ramirez claimed a $1 million prize from the $20 Gold Rush Limited scratch-off game at the Miami District Office.

Lottery officials say Ramirez bought his winning ticket from Circle K, at 24996 Overseas Highway in Summerland Key Ramirez chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $795,000.

The retailer will receive a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.

The game’s overall odds of winning are 1-in-2.65.

Lottery officials announced on November 20, that an unclaimed lottery ticket worth $44 million was purchased in central Florida. If it goes unclaimed by December 11, the prize will expire.
