Maryland Sports Betting Generates $8.45 Million in July

Maryland’s sports betting market kicked off Fiscal Year 2027 with a strong July, generating $8.45 million in state contributions—up 16.6% from the $7.25 million collected in July 2025.

Bettors placed $496.4 million in wagers during the month, while sportsbooks paid out about $440.9 million in prizes. Operators kept roughly 11.2% of the total handle.

Where the Money Went

• $6.36 million went to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund to support public education.
• $2.10 million went to the state’s General Fund from mobile wagering.
• Retail sportsbooks contributed 15% of taxable proceeds to the Blueprint Fund, while mobile operators pay a 20% tax split between the two funds.

Mobile betting continued to dominate, accounting for $489.2 million of July’s wagers. Retail sportsbooks handled just $7.2 million. Mobile operators generated about $8.39 million in taxes, compared with $62,764 from retail books.

Since sports betting launched in Maryland in December 2021, the industry has contributed more than $283.4 million to the Blueprint Fund, $34.7 million to the General Fund, and $5.7 million to the Problem Gambling Fund through expired prizes.
