Man from King George County wins $5 million in Virginia Lottery

A Virginia woman came up with a funny and very understated response when her husband called to say he’d just won $5 million in the lottery.

“She said to get home safely,” Dennis Rector told lottery officials. Rector, who lives in King George County, admits it wasn’t easy, Virginia Lottery officials said in a news release.

His $30 winning ticket in the $5,000,000 Ultimate game was purchased at a Sheetz convenience store in King George, the lottery said. The ticket distributor will get $10,000 for selling the winning Scratch-Off ticket.

Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 2,448,000, according to the game.

“He had the choice of taking the full $5 million prize in annual payments over 30 years or a one-time cash option of $3,201,024 before taxes. He selected the cash option,” the lottery reported.

Rector said he intends to pay bills and save his winnings for retirement.
