Group of former coworkers win big in Ontario lottery after 20 years of playing together

Persistence has paid off for a group of eight former coworkers from Ontario who continued to play the lottery together every week, even after retirement.

After two decades of trying their luck, the group finally hit the jackpot, winning $956,081.10 in the Lottario draw on March 4, 2023.

Newmarket resident Bernadette Kenny, who buys the tickets every week, discovered their win one Sunday morning when checking their ticket at the OLG Prize Centre.

After sharing the news with the other group members, initial confusion turned into joy and excitement.

Each of the group members has various plans for their winnings. Some plan to go on vacation, while others will share the money with their families. Kenny plans to take a Christmas vacation with her family, while Heather Lundberg will use the money to fix her backyard fence.

For the group, who have known each other for 30 years, the win is extra special. Margaret Hennelly from Stouffville said that the fact they won together means a lot to them.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart on Yonge Street in East Gwillimbury. Along with their big win, the group also won $4 on another Lottario selection and $2 on their Encore selection, bringing their total winnings to $956,087.10.
