Elizabeth City Woman Wins $1 Million With $2 Powerball Ticket

A $2 Powerball ticket turned into a $1 million payday for Janet Cornelius of Elizabeth City.

Cornelius matched all five white-ball numbers in Wednesday’s drawing—a feat with odds of about 1 in 11.6 million.

She purchased the lucky ticket at Hop-In Citgo on North Road Street in Elizabeth City and headed to lottery headquarters Thursday to claim her prize.

After state and federal tax withholdings, Cornelius walked away with $720,100.

A $2 ticket. A $1 million win. What a lucky break!
