AI Picks Lottery Numbers — But Is It Luck or Logic?

Can artificial intelligence really help you win the lottery? For a few lucky players, it sure seemed that way.

  • Michigan’s Tammy Carvey decided to ask ChatGPT for Powerball numbers just as the jackpot was nearing $2 billion. She played the suggested combo — and ended up pocketing $100,000.

  • Two days later, Carrie Edwards from Virginia did the same and scored $150,000, even thinking at first her win notification was a scam.

  • And over in Italy, three college students built their own AI algorithm that analyzed past draws — it earned them more than $50,000.

As jackpots like Mega Millions’ current $965 million keep climbing, more players are turning to AI tools like Lottery AI or Lottery Picker AI (which costs over $300) to chase that big win. But experts aren’t convinced.

Data scientists like Kate Ruksha and AI developers such as Jan Kammerath have run tests using multiple AI systems. The results? A few matching numbers here and there, but no major wins. “It’s still random guessing,” Kammerath said.

AI can analyze trends — like how most winning combinations usually balance even and odd numbers or highlight “hot” and “cold” picks — but it can’t predict the future. Even ChatGPT admits it can’t tell you which ticket will hit.

So, while it’s fun to let AI pick your numbers, don’t expect a guaranteed jackpot anytime soon. Still, if luck strikes — who’s to say a bot can’t have a little credit?
