A local winning lottery ticket is sold out in area near Derby recently

An area resident is $30,000 richer after purchasing a winning lottery ticket this week in Derby, according to the Connecticut Lottery.

On Friday, Ansonia resident Maria Bursey won $30,000 playing a "30X Cash 9th Edition" game. The winning ticket was purchased from Exxon Mart in Derby.

The retailer who sold out the winning lottery ticket will also get a bonus for selling it to the winner, lottery officials announced.

The winner has to reach the nearest lottery headquarters for further documentation formalities and for claiming their winning prize money, lottery officials said.

The winner has only 180 days from the day of the lottery draw to claim the winning prize money and if not claimed then it will be donated to a charity.
