$2 Million Win Turns Grocery Trip into Life-Changer

A South Carolina man just turned a routine grocery trip into a life-changing moment. He scored $2 million on a $20 scratch-off ticket from the Double Up! game, beating odds of 1 in 1.08 million, lottery officials announced Sept. 26.

The winner, who prefers to stay anonymous, picked up his lucky ticket at a Harris Teeter in Summerville, about 25 miles northwest of Charleston. Playing the lottery has been part of his grocery routine — and this time, it paid off big.

This isn’t his first brush with luck. Years ago, he won $10,000, but this prize dwarfs that earlier windfall. “I’m buying a house,” he shared. “I’ve been very lucky.” After taxes, he walked away with $1.4 million.

Unlike some winners who can’t contain their excitement, he’s keeping his cool. “I didn’t let it shake me up,” he told the South Carolina Education Lottery. He’s taking it all in stride, savoring the moment without getting swept away.
