More Than 1.5 Million National Lottery Players Have Unclaimed Winnings Waiting

Millions of National Lottery players could be missing out on money already sitting in their online accounts. Lottery operator Allwyn says 1,542,081 players have winnings they haven't withdrawn or used to buy more tickets.

Quick Highlights

  • 🎉 Over 1.5 million online accounts still have unclaimed prizes.
  • 💰 The average unused prize is £3.90.
  • ⭐ More than 195,000 players have £10 or more waiting.
  • 🏆 Individual unclaimed prizes can be as high as £500, the maximum amount automatically credited to an online account.

Allwyn is encouraging players to sign in and check their balances, reminding winners that even a small prize can be put toward something fun, saved for later, or used to enter another drawing.

Senior Winners' Advisor Andy Carter said it's surprising how many people never enjoy their winnings. He urged players to log into their accounts because they may have money waiting without even realizing it.

The largest number of unclaimed accounts is in England, including:

  • London: 200,553
  • South East: 192,680
  • East of England: 186,683
  • North West: 180,672

Elsewhere, there are 130,375 unclaimed-winning accounts in Scotland, 74,444 in Wales, and 27,767 in Northern Ireland.

One player who knows how quickly things can change is Paul Wynne, a father of eight from North Wales. What he first believed was a £1,700 prize turned into an incredible £1 million jackpot after he realized he had matched five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball. The winning line was made up of special dates connected to his five younger children.

Since National Lottery funding began in 1994, it has raised more than £53 billion for good causes, helping support over 680,000 projects across the UK while contributing roughly £33 million every week.
