$1.5 Million Lottery Prize Claimed Just in Time in California
A lottery prize of $1.5 million has been claimed just in time before the deadline expired. The claimant asserted that they had purchased the winning ticket for the October 26, 2022, draw.
The California Lottery representative stated that the deadline for claiming the prize was set to expire when the lottery offices closed at 5 p.m. local time. However, the winner could still claim the prize by mail as long as the postmark was before the end of the day.
The California Lottery will now start the process of verifying the authenticity of the claim before declaring the winner's name publicly, as per California law. The verification process could take some time as the California Lottery processes over 10,000 winnings claims a month.
The winning ticket was purchased at a Mobil gas station in Los Gatos, Santa Clara County, and consisted of the numbers 19-36-37-46-56, missing only the Powerball number.
