Wanneroo Man's Late Work Turnaround: Scoops Almost $1 Million Lotto Win
In a remarkable twist of fate, a young man from Wanneroo, Western Australia, found himself nearly $1 million richer after an unexpected change in his routine. Typically, he would purchase a Lotto ticket from his neighborhood retailer after work for the Saturday draw. However, circumstances led him to opt for the Lotterywest app to secure his weekly ticket when he was held back late at work one Saturday.
Reflecting on this change of plan, he mentioned, “I usually buy a ticket from my retailer after work, but I was held back late and ended up having to buy my ticket online.” The pivotal moment came on a Sunday morning when he checked his ticket and saw that all the numbers were marked blue with the message "winner."
This stroke of luck meant that he was one of seven individuals who shared the division one prize pool, resulting in a significant windfall of $738,000.
James Mooney, a spokesperson for Lotterywest, highlighted that this recent win adds to the tally of success stories, making it the 70th division one-winning ticket sold in Western Australia this year. These tickets have collectively distributed more than $192 million, profoundly impacting the lives of those fortunate players.
This win follows earlier reports in September revealing that West Australians were sitting on unclaimed Lotto tickets amounting to a staggering $30 million from the past financial year. The annual report by Lotterywest showcased a notable increase in expired winnings over the previous 12 months, with the available $28 million representing a reduction from the $38 million unclaimed in 2022.
