The South Carolina Education Lottery announced that an Upstate man recently won scratch-off ticket bought in Spartanburg County.

The winner won a whopping sum of $300,000 playing South Carolina Education Lottery's Red Cherry Tripler scratch-off game.

The winning ticket was sold at a Redi Mart on Highway 357 in Lyman, SC. The store will receive a bonus of $3,000 for selling the winning scratch-Off ticket.

The man used part of his winnings to surprise his son by paying off his mortgage, and saved the rest.

“My son’s tickled to death,” he said.

The South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) began in 2002. South Carolina is a member of the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), best known for Powerball.

The minimum age to purchase SCEL tickets is 18.
