South Carolina Man Wins $150,000 on Powerball Ticket

The Lowcountry resident purchased Powerball tickets before Christmas in Charleston and was shocked when he discovered

man in South Carolina missed the $626 million jackpot by just one number when he bought a few Powerball tickets before Christmas, he says.

But the Lowcountry region man who bought the tickets in Charleston won’t be going home without a prize.

The South Carolina Education Lottery says he won $150,000 with the ticket for the Dec. 23 drawing.

“I was shocked,” the unnamed man told lottery officials, according to a release.

“My wife thought I was crazy.” The winning Powerball numbers for Dec. 23, 2023, were 9, 14, 17, 18, and 53 with a Powerball of 6.

The man only matched four of the numbers, which won him $50,000, but he also matched the Powerball, which tripled his winnings.

“The odds of matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball number playing Powerball are 1 in 913,129,” the South Carolina Education Lottery says in its release.

To win the Powerball jackpot, a ticket must match all the numbers and the Powerball number.

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338
