Snowstorm Strands Ontario Man at Airport, But Leads to $2.5M Lotto 6/49 Win

Jerry Carpenter of Terrace Bay, Ontario, had an unexpected stroke of luck when he won $2.5 million from a Lotto 6/49 jackpot after being stranded at Toronto's Pearson Airport during a snowstorm.

While returning from a family trip in Punta Cana, Jerry and his family got stuck in Toronto due to the inclement weather. To kill time, Jerry decided to buy lottery tickets, which he promptly forgot about and stuffed into his bag.

It wasn't until some time later that Jerry discovered the forgotten tickets and realized just how lucky he was to have been stranded at the airport that day.

"We were returning from a family trip in Punta Cana and ended up stuck in Toronto due to a snowstorm, so I decided to pick up some tickets to kill some time," Jerry told OLG officials at the prize centre in Toronto.
