Single Father in Fremont became overnight millionaire
A single father in Fremont, Nebraska is $1 million richer after he stopped at a grocery store and bought a winning Mega Millions ticket.
Brant Edgington bought five Mega Millions tickets while shopping at Baker’s on North Bell Street in Fremont last month. One of the tickets matched five numbers in the March 22 drawing.
The numbers drawn were 3, 8, 31, 35, 44 and Mega Ball 16. Edgington told the Nebraska Lottery that he stopped at the store to pick up a premade salad for lunch and decided to buy a few Mega Millions tickets.
He said his dad and grandfather are avid
Mega Millions and Powerball players but he only plays when the jackpots get high.
Edgington said he asked a clerk to check his ticket after he had trouble getting the Check-a-Ticket scanner to read it.
“They disappeared for a minute,” he said. “Then a different lady came up with her and they just stared at me.
She told me, ‘Don’t pass out when I tell you this.’” Edgington told the Nebraska Lottery that he managed to stay on his feet after learning his ticket was worth $1 million.
He stopped at the lottery office in Lincoln on Friday, April 5 to claim his prize.
“I don’t play all that often,” he said. “As a single parent, baloney is more important, financially.” Mega Millions is played in 45 states plus Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
