Saskatoon was the $55 million Lotto Max jackpot winner on October 19. When Matthew Poppel from Saskatoon realized that the winning ticket for the Oct. 19 Lotto Max

draw had been sold in his hometown, he allegedly made jokes with his buddies.

 

According to a Sask Lotteries press release announcing the prize, he eventually learned that he had selected the winning numbers himself.

The statement quotes him as saying, "I didn't believe for a second that I had truly won $55 million". "That was not something I expected to happen to me."

The ticket was acquired by Poppel at a Saskatoon petrol station on Faithfull Avenue. On the 19th of October, he matched all seven of the winning numbers exactly: 12, 26,

28, 32, 41, 43, and 50.

 

According to the press release, he intends to first assist his family and friends with part of his winnings before enjoying some of the money for himself.

The $60 million prize won by a Neville resident in 2016 remains the greatest lottery win in Saskatchewan history, with Poppel's victory coming in second.
