Quebec Man Wins $50 Million Lotto Max Jackpot, Returns to Work as Usual

$50M Lotto Max jackpot winner continues going to work at 4:30 a.m.: 'I can’t leave them alone in the dark'

A hardworking man from Quebec, Pierre Richer, in his sixties, had the most surprising Thanksgiving weekend when he discovered that he had won a staggering $50 million jackpot in the October 6 Lotto Max draw.

What sets Pierre apart is his unwavering dedication to his job. Despite the life-changing reward, he returned to work at 4:30 AM on the following Monday, continuing his role as a driver and head of shipping at a catering company.

Pierre's modesty and dedication are truly remarkable. He explained, "I can't leave them alone in the dark. Without me there, the shipping department is not feasible." Pierre's dedication to his job shines as brightly as his lottery win.

The incredible twist in Pierre's story is that he bought the ticket while picking up Thanksgiving dinner ingredients with his daughter. While shopping at the Super C grocery store on Boulevard Champlain in the LaSalle borough, he decided to purchase a Lotto Max ticket. As he revealed, if the pie crust hadn't been on sale, he wouldn't have been at that particular location to buy the ticket.

The real surprise came the day after the draw when Pierre's daughter and spouse checked the Lotto Max ticket online and discovered that he had matched all seven Lotto Max numbers (04, 17, 20, 23, 25, 27, and 41), leading to his incredible jackpot win. However, Pierre's reaction to the multi-million dollar news was notably calm. "I walked into the room, and they told me," he said. "I said 'OK,' and then walked out."

While Pierre now has the means to fulfill his dream of owning a home on the outskirts of Montreal, take his family on vacation, and upgrade his car, he has no intentions of retiring soon. After a 40-year career, he's looking forward to some well-deserved "me" time but is not considering retirement at the moment.

Loto-Québec President and CEO Jean-François Bergeron noted, "Last year, we awarded $1.5 billion to lottery winners. We're so proud to be contributing to the community in this way and helping people bring their plans to fruition."
