Powerball Jackpot Surpasses $1 Billion, Breaking Records
The Powerball Jackpot has escalated to unprecedented heights, crossing the monumental $1 billion mark.
This remarkable achievement marks only the third time in the 31-year history of Powerball that the jackpot has reached such a staggering amount. Currently ranking as the seventh largest U.S. lottery jackpot and the third largest Powerball Jackpot, it follows closely behind the world record of $2.04 billion in 2022 and the $1.5 billion prize won in 2016.
As the excitement builds, Drew Svitko, Powerball Product Group Chair and Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director, reminds players to participate responsibly, emphasizing that one ticket is all it takes to win this massive jackpot or any of Powerball's other cash prizes.
The last drawing on Monday, July 17, saw close to 3 million lucky individuals claim winning tickets nationwide, with a combined total of $41.7 million in lower-tier cash prizes.
While the jackpot remains unclaimed, the anticipation continues to grow, with hopes of finding the next big winner. Kansas lottery officials reported two $50,000 cash prize winners in the July 17 drawing.
For those playing the upcoming Wednesday night drawing, the decision between claiming an annuitized prize estimated at $1 billion or a lump sum payment estimated at $516.8 million awaits the potential jackpot winner.
