Powerball Fever Hits Chicopee as Jackpot Climbs to $835 Million

Powerball fever is growing across Western Massachusetts as players line up for a chance to win an estimated $835 million jackpot in Wednesday night's drawing.

At Pride Market and Gas Station on Montgomery Street in Chicopee, hopeful players are giving luck another shot. Rose Ingle, a regular Powerball player, believes the store could bring her good fortune. Nearly nine years ago, someone purchased a winning ticket worth almost $759 million at the same location.

"Wow! Wow, would I have a nice, beautiful home," Ingle said.

If she hits the jackpot, Ingle has big plans:

  • Buy a new car.
  • Take a dream vacation to Hawaii.
  • Help friends and family financially.

"I have been feeling like I've got some luck coming," she added.

Chicopee resident Kathy Owens is also hoping for a life-changing win. She said she would purchase a new home, cover her family's bills, and support her niece, who recently welcomed her second child. Unlike some players, Owens prefers letting the lottery computer pick her numbers.

"I never know. You never know. Nine times out of 10, the numbers that I pick don't come out," she said.

A Massive Powerball Jackpot

This is only the second time the Powerball jackpot has climbed above $800 million. The previous occasion came in August, when an Illinois player won a staggering $1.04 billion prize.

If someone wins Wednesday night, the $835 million jackpot would rank as the 10th-largest in Powerball history.

The highly anticipated drawing is scheduled for just before 11 p.m., giving players one more chance to dream big.
