$1.1B Up for Grabs: Powerball Jackpot Reaches Historic High

Crowds packed local shops this weekend chasing the dream of becoming the next billionaire as the Powerball jackpot surged past the $1 billion mark.

  • Saturday’s drawing didn’t produce a grand prize winner, but nine lucky players still walked away with $1 million each. Those tickets were sold in California (4), Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania.

  • The winning numbers for Aug. 30 were: 3, 18, 22, 27, 33 and the red Powerball 17.

Now, all eyes are on Monday night’s drawing at 10:59 p.m., which comes with a massive $1.1 billion annuity prize — or nearly $500 million in cash for anyone opting for the lump sum.

“Who doesn’t like money?” joked Mike Posner, who works at Charles Village Discount Liquors, noting the nonstop stream of ticket buyers.

Powerball officials remind players that the odds of hitting the jackpot are a steep 1 in 292.2 million — but that hasn’t stopped America from dreaming big this Labor Day.
