Shannon and Karsten Von Richter from Port Moody, Metro Vancouver, experienced the thrill of a lifetime when they claimed their Lotto 6/49 jackpot, receiving not one but two giant novelty cheques totaling $3,333,333.40. The couple's incredible win unfolded when Shannon, unknowingly, purchased the same set of numbers twice for the September 30 draw.

The Von Richters initially found it peculiar that two winners in their city and one in Ontario were splitting the $5-million Classic Jackpot. It wasn't until Shannon realized her double-ticket purchase that the pieces fell into place. "At first, I thought it’s weird – what are the chances that two people in Port Moody won with the same numbers?" she shared.

Discovering the dual win at home, Shannon promptly called Karsten, who, like her, was in disbelief. "I just didn’t believe it!" he exclaimed. The couple, who bought both tickets at Thrifty Foods on Brew Street, celebrated their good fortune with a special dinner and are now contemplating their plans for the future.

“This gives us more freedom and makes us more comfortable,” Karsten expressed. “We will figure things out once it settles down a bit.” The overwhelming feeling? "Amazing!" added Shannon.
