A North Carolina woman is celebrating a life-changing win after turning a $30 scratch-off ticket into a $1 million jackpot.
Kimberly Staton of Polkton said she always believed one of those big lottery prizes would eventually be hers. And this time, she was right.
Big Win at a 7-Eleven
Staton bought the winning MAX-A-MILLION scratch-off ticket at a 7-Eleven in Indian Trail. After scratching the ticket, the excitement kicked in fast.
- $30 ticket turned into $1 million
- Chose a lump-sum payout instead of yearly payments
- Took home more than $432,000 after taxes
She later visited lottery headquarters to claim her prize and decided to take the one-time cash option of $600,000 rather than annual payments spread over 20 years.
After state and federal tax deductions, Staton walked away with $432,068.
She said she had already been telling coworkers she was going to hit a million-dollar prize someday — and now she finally has the proof.
What’s Next?
Instead of splurging right away, Staton plans to put the money toward buying a house, making the win even more meaningful for her future.
