Brunswick County man wins big prize from lottery scratch-off

A lucky man from Ocean Isle Beach named Grady Watkins Jr. won a whopping sum of $100,000 playing North Carolina Education Lottery’s $20 Platinum scratch-off ticket game.

The winning ticket was sold at the Food Lion on South Willis Drive in Shallotte. The ticket distributor will get a bonus of $1,000 for selling the winning scratch-Off ticket.

The winner recently claimed his winning amount from the lottery headquarters and took home $71,256 after required state and federal tax withholdings.

North Carolina has one of the United States' youngest lottery systems, having been enacted in 2005.

Platinum debuted in August with four $2 million prizes and eight $100,000 prizes. Two $2 million prizes and three $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
