The winner is in cloud nine

Just a week after closing her first home, a North Carolina woman won the lottery. Greensboro Resident Patricia Simmons shopped scrape off a Ticket from Fairway One Stop.

She decided to play the $30 million maker and to her surprise won $1 million.

“I just stared at it,” Patricia said.

“It was unreal to see.”

Although she won $1 million, she didn’t actually receive that amount. Patricia had the option of receiving the money as an annuity of $50,000 over a period of 20 years or more lump sum of $600,000.

Since she opted for the $600,000 lump sum, she only took home $427,509 due to required state and federal tax withholdings.
