Naples man scoop massive lottery jackpot

A Naples man won $1 million after buying a winning scratch card from Publix. The Florida Lottery announced that 63-year-old John Downey has won the top prize in the Gold Rush Limited scratch card game at the lottery’s Tallahassee headquarters.

Downey chose to receive his winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of $795,000. Lottery officials said Downey purchased the winning ticket from Publix at 8833 Tamiami Trail North in Naples.

The Publix store will receive a $2,000 bonus commission on the sale of the winning ticket. The $20 scratch card game features 32 top prizes worth $5 million and 100 prizes worth $1 million.

According to the Florida Lottery, website, there are nine $5 million scratch cards and 36 $1 million scratch cards left. The overall winning probability of the game is 1 in 2.65.
