A Genesee County, Michigan woman turned what started as a casual night out into a life-changing $1 million win on May 5, according to the Michigan Lottery.
It all began on Cinco de Mayo when she and a friend decided to grab a few lottery tickets while out celebrating. They stopped at Liquor Wheel, where she initially only walked away with a small $30 win—but that was just the beginning.
Feeling lucky, she picked up two more tickets, including a $5 Lucky Stars instant game. She scratched them right there in the store—and the moment hit hard. “I ran out to my car crying when I saw I’d won $1 million,” she said. “It was unreal. I’m still trying to process it.”
After claiming her prize, she chose the lump sum option of about $693,000 instead of annuity payments. Her plans are heartfelt: help her parents buy a home and a car, and save the rest.
