Métis-Cree woman wins $3.2M dream home lottery

Tanya Lalonde, a Métis-Cree mom of three, is still processing the surreal feeling of winning the $3.2 million CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery.

The annual lottery, supporting the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), awarded Lalonde a fully furnished home in Ottawa's Manotick area, built by Minto Communities, along with $100,000 in cash.

Lalonde, an intergenerational survivor of residential schools, expressed deep gratitude for the unexpected blessing, considering her challenging upbringing in the child welfare system.

The lottery serves as a vital fundraising initiative for CHEO, contributing to equipment, research, and programs at the hospital. The prize also includes a 2023 Mustang Mach-E, bi-weekly cleaning for a year, gas and grocery gift certificates, and moving services.
