At the Pride Gas Station and Market on Montgomery Street in Chicopee, customers lined up to buy tickets. The location is well known for selling a $758.7 million Powerball-winning ticket back in August 2017, making it a lucky stop for hopeful players.

Despite the excitement, the odds remain incredibly long. Powerball players face odds of 1 in 292 million, while Mega Millions offers odds of 1 in 290 million to hit the jackpot.

Huge jackpots in both games at the same time are uncommon. The last time both prizes topped the half-billion-dollar mark was March 2024, when Mega Millions reached about $1.1 billion and Powerball climbed to roughly $800 million.

Springfield resident Darren Poole said he's feeling optimistic after buying tickets for both drawings. He joked that he's been saying he'll win both games and hopes this could finally be his lucky break. If it happens, he plans to attend a future Super Bowl and donate to programs that support autistic children and adults.

Chicopee resident Donna Renaud also joined the excitement, saying she usually waits until jackpots get this large before playing. Instead of choosing family birthdays like she normally does, she went with a Quick Pick this time.

If fortune smiles on her, Renaud says her priorities are clear:
