Maryland Woman Wins $50K After Decades of Lottery Play

A Maryland woman’s decades-long lottery streak finally hit big. The Salisbury retiree, who’s been playing almost every Maryland Lottery game since 1981, recently scored her largest prize yet.
She had only been trying her luck with Bonus Match 5 for less than a year. Feeling like her wins with other games had slowed, she decided to give the new game a shot. On a visit to Ocean Downs Casino in Ocean City, her husband bought a Bonus Match 5 ticket with three combinations “just in case.”
Later that night, when he showed her the results, she thought he was joking. “But when I saw it for myself, I was filled with excitement and emotion,” she said. The couple matched five numbers to win $50,000 and snagged an extra $15 for other combinations, bringing the total to $50,015.
“I’ve been playing Bonus Match 5 for less than a year, and for this to be my biggest prize after all these years puts me on top of the world,” the winner said. She hasn’t decided yet how she’ll spend her winnings.
Salisbury, located about 115 miles southeast of Baltimore, can now celebrate one of its long-time lottery enthusiasts finally hitting it big.
