Maryland Restaurant Manager Strikes Jackpot Luck

Sometimes luck shows up when you least expect it. That’s exactly what happened to Maryland’s own Scott Twigg earlier this month.

On Sept. 7, Twigg walked into a Cumberland convenience store looking to grab his go-to scratch-off. But the ticket he wanted wasn’t in stock. Instead, he picked up a few $5 FAST PLAY tickets, cashed in some small wins, and then decided to roll the dice on a $10 FAST PLAY Lucky Numbers ticket. That small switch made all the difference.

At first, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Twigg scanned his ticket and saw a message directing him to the cashier. Curious but calm, he handed it over—only to be told the kind of news every lottery player dreams about.

? “Because you just won the jackpot,” the cashier told him.

Turns out, one of Twigg’s numbers matched the winning icon for the game’s progressive jackpot—a whopping $140,569. What started as a routine ticket run turned into a life-changing payout.

Twigg, who manages a restaurant, already knows where the money’s going:

  • Buy a house

  • Get a new car

  • Save the rest

He says he still plans to work hard, but the win will finally let him “breathe a little easier.”

Cumberland, tucked away in northwest Maryland, is now home to a story that proves a simple twist of fate can flip an ordinary day into something unforgettable.
