A father from New Carrollton, Maryland, has won the $5 million top prize in the Maryland Lottery's 50th-anniversary scratch-off game.

The player, who goes by the nickname “Happy Dad,” plans to use the money to pay off his mortgage and save for his kids’ college fund.

The winning ticket was purchased at Liquor City in Lanham, and the store will receive a bonus of $5,000 from the Lottery. This scratch-off game, called 50 Years!, went on sale on February 20, and this is the first of three $5 million top prizes to be claimed.
