National Lottery Data Reveals the UK’s Top Millionaire Hotspots

Manchester Leads the UK in New Lotto Millionaires Since 2023

Manchester has topped the list of UK areas producing the most Lotto millionaires over the past three years, according to new National Lottery figures. Since 2023, the city has recorded 30 new millionaires, narrowly ahead of Liverpool with 29 and Birmingham with 27.

Other areas that have also seen plenty of millionaire winners include Belfast, Portsmouth, Leicester, Glasgow, Nottingham, Peterborough, and Swansea.

140 New Lotto Millionaires in 2026

The National Lottery continues to create new millionaires across Britain. So far in 2026, 140 Lotto players have won enough to become millionaires, averaging approximately one new millionaire every 48 hours.

More than half of these winners emerged after the launch of a revamped Lotto game in June. The updated format gives players two chances to win with the same ticket, a change expected to increase the number of millionaires created each year.

Which UK Areas Have Produced the Most Millionaires?

Looking at the numbers since the National Lottery launched in 1994, Birmingham takes the top spot for the highest overall number of millionaires. Belfast and Glasgow follow, while Manchester ranks sixth.

Here are the top 10 postcode areas with the most National Lottery millionaires:

  • Birmingham: 234
  • Belfast: 202
  • Glasgow: 178
  • Sheffield: 171
  • Liverpool: 166
  • Manchester: 163
  • Newcastle: 154
  • Cardiff: 144
  • Peterborough: 142
  • Leicester: 127

These figures include winners who have publicly shared their stories and those who have chosen to remain anonymous. The data is based on postcode areas rather than individual postcodes or local council boundaries.

Which Areas Are the Luckiest Per Person?

Larger cities naturally tend to produce more winners because they have bigger populations. However, comparing millionaire totals with the estimated adult population can offer a different perspective on which areas have performed best.

Motherwell ranks first when millionaire wins are measured against the adult population. Its historical figures work out to approximately one millionaire for every 4,156 adults, or around 2.41 millionaires per 10,000 adults.

Watford takes second place, followed by Liverpool. Smaller postcode areas also feature prominently, showing that big cities aren't the only places where lottery fortunes can change.

The top 10 postcode areas for millionaires relative to their adult population are:

  1. Motherwell
  2. Watford
  3. Liverpool
  4. Dumfries
  5. Romford
  6. Durham
  7. Llandrindod Wells
  8. St Albans
  9. Sunderland
  10. Hull

National Lottery Says Luck Can Strike Anywhere

Kathy Garrett, Winners Experience Lead at Allwyn, the operator of The National Lottery, said the organization enjoys seeing winners emerge from communities throughout the UK.

She highlighted how life-changing wins have happened in both major cities and smaller towns, emphasizing that no single postcode has a monopoly on good fortune.

The latest figures reinforce that message: while some areas have recorded more winners than others, National Lottery millionaires have come from communities across the country.
