Lottery Winner Almost Throws £41,000 Fortune in Rubbish Bin
A US lottery winner nearly threw away a £41,000 fortune after mistakingly thinking his winning scratch card had already been checked.
The winner, known only as Mambo, and his wife had purchased $30 worth of scratch cards from a convenience store in La Plata, Charles County.
After going through the stack of scratch cards and building two piles, one with winning cards and one with losing cards, Mambo found a Gold X20 ticket that had already been checked but decided to give it another once-over.
The card turned out to be the winning ticket and Mambo and his wife are now planning to use the money to purchase a new home.
The convenience store where the couple purchased the scratch card will also receive a small payout for stocking the winning card.
