Johnston County Worker Scores $250K Scratch-Off Prize on the Way to Work
A regular trip to work turned into a life-changing moment for a Johnston County man after he landed a $250,000 scratch-off prize from a North Carolina Lottery ticket.
Kevin Pavel of Clayton picked up a $50 500X The Cash scratch-off at Bull Market on Airport Boulevard in Morrisville on Monday. When he revealed the winning ticket, he was overwhelmed with excitement.
Winning Highlights:
- 🎉 Won $250,000 from a scratch-off ticket.
- 💰 Took home $180,039 after state and federal tax withholdings.
- 🏡 Plans to pay off bills and build his retirement savings.
"It was amazing," Pavel said, adding that he was so emotional he nearly cried. His wife was initially skeptical and didn't believe the news until he showed her a photo of the winning ticket.
Pavel later visited lottery headquarters in Raleigh to collect his prize. The unexpected windfall will help him reduce financial stress while setting aside money for the future.
The 500X The Cash game launched in January and still offers plenty of big opportunities. All five $10 million top prizes remain available, and as of Tuesday, seven of the ten $250,000 prizes had yet to be claimed.
