An individual from Illinois is set to kick off the new year on a high note, having struck it rich with a significant win on a new $10 scratch-off ticket.

The Illinois Lottery confirmed that this fortunate winner secured one of just three $777,777 prizes available on a scratch-off ticket introduced in early December.

The winning ticket was purchased at a BP gas station located in the 4300 block of State Street in Chicago.

As a result, the gas station will be awarded a selling bonus of $7,777, equivalent to one percent of the prize amount.

After accounting for taxes, estimated at approximately $225,100, the winner is anticipated to take home about $552,600, according to calculations from Nerdwallet's Lottery Tax Calculator.
