Illinois Lottery Employee Charged After Stealing, Redeeming Winning Tickets

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has announced that a 57-year-old employee of the Illinois Department of Lottery has been charged with several felony counts, including theft, official misconduct, and wire fraud.

Dean F. Derrick allegedly stole books of instant lottery tickets from retailers while working as a lottery sales representative, and redeemed them for cash at separate retailers.

A 24-year-old man, Frazier R. Mack, was also charged with theft for allegedly redeeming some of the stolen tickets. The actions reportedly occurred in March and April of last year.

The Illinois Department of Lottery released a statement saying they take allegations of this nature seriously and work closely with authorities to investigate and prosecute such issues.

Derrick's bond has been set at $15,000, and he is set to appear in court on March 30.
