Winner of last month's $1.6 billion Mega Millions jackpot claims prize in Florida

A new billionaire has emerged in Florida! The lucky owner of the winning Mega Millions ticket from the August 8 jackpot drawing has finally stepped forward to claim the staggering $1.602 billion prize. The winning numbers – 13, 19, 20, 32, 33, along with the gold Mega Ball 14 – have catapulted this Floridian into the realm of billionaires.

This monumental win was fueled by robust ticket sales, shattering the previous jackpot record of $1.537 billion set in South Carolina in 2018. Interestingly, this is the fourth occasion that Florida has produced a jackpot-winning ticket. The ticket was originally sold at a Publix supermarket in Neptune Beach, as reported by the Associated Press.

However, the identity of the fortunate winner remains a well-guarded secret, in accordance with Florida lottery laws. These regulations dictate that the identity of any winner of a prize exceeding $250,000 "will be exempt from public disclosure" for a period of 90 days from the date of prize claim.

Mega Millions jackpot winners have the choice between a lump-sum cash payment or an annual payout. The lottery officials have not disclosed whether the Florida winner opted for the lump sum or annual installments. The cash option represents a one-time, lump-sum payment equivalent to the entire cash pool of the Mega Millions jackpot prize.
