Two lottery tickets worth $1 million sold in North Carolina. Where were they sold?

Two fortunate individuals in North Carolina are celebrating substantial lottery victories, each securing $1 million prizes within a day of each other.

The first win occurred in the Mega Millions game, with a ticket sold at the Sumner Food Mart and Hardware store in Greensboro. The lucky player matched five out of the six numbers drawn on Friday, Nov. 17: 6-12-31-33-69, with the Mega Ball number 17.

The following day brought another stroke of luck as a Powerball player hit the jackpot, purchasing the winning ticket at Duck Thru Food in Columbia, a Tyrrell County town approximately 150 miles east of Raleigh. The ticket matched five out of six numbers drawn on Saturday, Nov. 18: 34-50-51-61-67, with the Powerball number 20.

As of early Nov. 20, no one has stepped forward to claim the prizes, and North Carolina lottery officials provide winners with about six months to collect their winnings. While these winners missed out on larger jackpot prizes by one number, each still secures a substantial windfall of $1 million. The Mega Millions jackpot was estimated at $267 million, and the Powerball prize stood at about $280 million, emphasizing the rare and challenging odds of jackpot wins in these popular lottery games.
